Portugal πŸ‡΅πŸ‡Ή

Porto, Lisbon, Sintra, Cascais. | Sep-Oct 2024.

Some Notes:

  • Portugal is a hilly country. Be prepared to walk up some serious incline while exploring.

  • We stayed in Porto and Lisbon. From Lisbon, you can take day trips to 2 other popular cities – Cascais and Sintra.

  • Getting from Lisbon to Porto is about a 3 hours bus or train ride. We took the Flix bus.

  • Porto

    • We stayed for 2 nights, had about 2.5 days, which felt like a good amount of time. I don’t think you need more than 3 days to explore.

  • Lisbon

    • Transportation: Recommend getting a metro pass for subway and trains. They have a great public transportation system. And ubers were rather unreliable.

    • Shopping: if you are hoping for an Italian or Paris luxury shopping experience, lower your expectations. They don’t have that many stores, and the selection in each store is also rather limited.

  • Sintra

    • Highly recommend visiting for a day trip. There’s plenty to see from castles to coastlines. We enjoyed our tour, we had a private tour for $135 (linked below).

  • Cascais

    • Don’t think visiting here is a must. Probably would be the best to visit during summer trip, since the beaches are the main attractions.

  • Here’s a link to my google doc which has all the information from this post (minus the pics), which may be easier to reference

    • Luxury stores on Av. da Liberdade

      • We were a bit disappointed about the luxury shopping options. Not all of the major luxury brands have stores in Portugal, and the selection is some of the stores is small. Don’t expect Milan or Paris options.

prego: a traditional Portuguese sandwich with pork + aoili.

also had some tagliatelle bolognese because I’m a pasta addict.

    • Bairro do Avillez - highly recommend

      • This is like a 3 in one restaurant. They have 3 different areas, which all have different menus.
