Lagos, Nigeria🇳🇬

January 2025.

  • This is probably my least impressive blog post, because this is in no way even an attempt at a comprehensive Lagos guide. This is not even necessarily a tourist guide. This trip was my first trip back to Lagos in 10 years, so I am far from well-versed enough to provide a Lagos guide.

  • There is also no itinerary, because we really just planned what we wanted to do day-by-day.

  • Here, I am merely sharing some out of the countless places to eat, shop, and see/buy art.

Food

  • Milk & Honey

    • Cafe/bakery-like small restaurant for breakfast/brunch. Breakfast sandwiches, lemonades, and cookies were delicious.

  • Buttermilk

    • Breakfast/brunch restaurant. Absolutely stunning inside, great service. Food and drinks were tasty.

  • HSE Gourmet

    • Seafood rice pot and the frozen mocktail were delicious.

  • Bukka Hut for suya

    • There are multiple locations in Lagos, and I love that they’re open until 2 AM, perfect late night pick up.

  • SLoW

    • Very beautiful restaurant, with great service. The shrimp tacos appetizers were probably my favorite. Drinks were delicious too.

  • RSVP

    • They have a cute outdoor seating area, with a live DJ and pool. We enjoyed our meal here, drinks , appetizers, and entrees were delicious.

  • The Smiths

    • I loved their creative cocktail menu, and the seafood pasta was delicious.

  • Grey Matter

    • Great for dinner or brunch, also have a rooftop bar.

  • Knowhere

    • This place is decorated nice and hyped up on social media. Drinks are good, but the actual food — which is the most important part — was a true let down. And the service was painfully slow, food took forever to come out.

  • Ile Iyan

    • Food was pretty good, recommend the egusi. But the iyan didn’t really taste like fresh pounded yam.

  • Bature Brewery

    • Recommend going for Taco Tuesday, where they offer different taco options and have a live DJ. Cripsy chicken tacos and beef suya were great.

  • Didn’t get to try these places, but heard good things:

    • Mr. Panther Lagos

    • NOK

    • Wine Lab

Shopping

The in-store inventory is significantly smaller than what you see online for these stores, which was disappointing. It also didn’t help that we visited in January, after these stores sold a lot of their inventory during Detty December. Also, some of the shops don’t have a physical storefront, but instead do pop-ups.

The biggest benefit of shopping in Lagos instead of just ordering online, is that the naira prices are much cheaper than what the items are priced if you shop online in US Dollars.

Art

  • Nike Art Gallery

    • Multiple floors packed with art. An art lovers dream, but also impossible to look at every piece of artwork.

    • The art is for sell, but they are not cheap at all. You can bargain a bit, but they don’t reduce the price much. The piece I wanted was about $3000.

  • Lekki Arts and Crafts Market

    • This market also is packed with art. There is an indoor part of the market, and open air part. In the open air part of the market, you can not only find paintings, but also woodwork, beaded jewelry, trinkets, leather goods, home decor, furniture and more.

    • Go there with time and patience. You can get amazing, one of a kind pieces, for reasonable prices. BUT you must bargain, I also recommend starting at maximum half of their asking price and working up from there.

  • Didn’t get to visit these galleries/museum.

    • Hourglass Gallery

    • O Da Art Gallery

• J Randall Museum Lagos — a newly opened museum that focuses on Yoruba history and culture.
